SENIOR BOOKKEEPER

 

Position: Senior Bookkeeper

​

Location: Durban North/Glen Ashley

​

Reports to: Accounting Manager

​

About the Role: This role is ideal for an individual with a strong foundation in bookkeeping and accounting principles, and who thrives in a deadline-driven environment. The successful candidate will take ownership of the full bookkeeping function for multiple clients and support audit preparation and reporting functions.

​

Key Responsibilities:​

​

•Maintain accurate and timely records of financial transactions from source documents through to trial balance.

 

• Perform full function bookkeeping for multiple entities across various industries.

 

• Process and reconcile bank and cash book transactions using Pastel Partner.

 

• Prepare and reconcile general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable ledgers.

 

• Analyse and process VAT transactions, prepare and submit VAT201 returns, ensuring compliance with the VAT Act.

 

• Understanding of EMP201, UI-19, and Workmen’s Compensation.

 

• Manage and reconcile debtors and creditors accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely follow-up on outstanding items.

 

• Drafting and finalization of Annual Financial Statements (AFS) using Caseware.

 

• Navigate and process submissions on SARS eFiling

 

• Liaise with clients to request necessary documentation and resolve queries in a professional and timely manner.

 

• Provide detailed monthly management reports and reconciliations to the Accounting Manager.

 

• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal control procedures.

 

• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of accounting and tax regulations, including updates from SARS.

 

• Support external audit processes by preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.

 

• Communicate regularly with the Accounting Manager on all bookkeepingrelated issues, progress, and deadlines.

 

• Train and mentor junior bookkeeping staff where required.

Minimum Requirements

​

​• Matric Certificate.

• BCom Accounting degree or similar qualification (or currently studying toward it).

• Minimum 2 years of accounting/bookkeeping experience, preferably in an auditing or accounting firm environment.

• Proficient in Pastel Partner and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

• Experience with Caseware is highly advantageous.

• Sound knowledge of SARS eFiling, VAT, PAYE, and UIF legislation and procedures.

• Valid driver's license and own reliable vehicle an advantage.

• Residing in the surrounding area is an advantage.

JUNIOR TAX ADMINISTRATOR

 

Position: Junior Tax Administrator

​

Location: Durban North/Glen Ashley

​

Reports to: Accounting Manager

​

About the Role: This role is ideal for someone eager to build a career in tax administration. You will handle tax return submissions, reconciliations, and SARS audits, while liaising directly with clients and SARS officials. The position offers hands-on experience in tax compliance and planning, with opportunities to grow into more senior tax advisory functions.

​

Key Responsibilities:​

​

• Attending to all client queries/SARS audits

​

• Completion and submission of Individual, Company, CC and Trust (Final and Provisional Tax Returns).

​

• Completion of Income Tax Verification Returns with all necessary documentation.

​

• Completion and submission of Dividends Tax Returns (DTR01, DTR02)

 

• Performing EMP501 PAYE Reconciliations

​

• Review of assessed Taxes verses Tax computations, and compilation and submission of objections

​

• i.e. (NOO, NOA, ADR, ADR1, ADR2)

​

• Escalations of unresolved issues beyond the prescribed time

​

• Utilization of the Tax software packages to its fullest potential

​

• Meeting and liaising with SARS officials/staff to resolve queries and to further respond to investigations and SARS Audits.

​

• Obtaining Tax Clearance certificates

​

• Obtaining Tax Directives

​

• Assisting clients with obtaining Deferred Payment Arrangements

​

• Meeting and liaising with clients to obtain information for the completion of Tax Returns (Supporting documentation and A&L)

​

• Performing living expense reconciliations

 

• Providing clients with Tax Cash Flow Planning (forecasting future Tax Payable and advising clients thereof)

​

• Providing regular feedback to clients on their Tax Status • Obtaining full tax compliance for all clients

​

• Be proficient on e-filing

​

• Adhering to all statutory deadlines for clients

​

• Avoiding interest and penalties to be incurred by clients

​

• Perform any duty as assigned by the Department Manager.

​

• VAT/PAYE/INCOME/IMPORT/EXPORT and other SARS Tax Registrations

 

​

Minimum Requirements

​

• Minimum 2 to 3 years working experience in an Accounting/Tax Practice

• Own vehicle essential

• Must have an accounting / tax degree or studying towards completion of the degree
